Shirley A. Schneider began writing as a diversion while mothering four children in an outmoded log enclosure near Fairbanks, Alaska. By the time all the children had been graduated kindergarten the diversion had grown into a desire. At this point she enrolled in writing classes at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Her on again, off again, intention to complete and seek representation for her memoir became a tangible goal in 2005.
Ms. Schneider’s writing credits include the serialization of excerpts from Between Two Poles on Alaska Public Radio’s kidsthesedays.org. The Fairbanks Daily News Miner published several of her articles related to her child-rearing years and she has been featured in their Opinion Column. As Advertising and Promotion Coordinator for the Tanana Valley State Fair she served as Editor for the monthly News Letter. While employed for the Alaska Gold Kings Hockey Team, she designed and published the game program.
She received her BA in journalism from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Ms. Schneider lives with her dog in Anchorage, Alaska. Between Two Poles is her first book length endeavor.
